We get it — not all diaper bags were created equally. There are definitely some fabulous diaper bags out there if you’re looking for a built-in changing pad, insulated sections for bottles and a ton of compartments. However, you don’t have to stick with a traditional “diaper bag” to get the job done. We rounded up a few of our favorite bags in each category that you’ll be able to use post baby bottles and diapers.
Here are a few key things to keep in mind when searching for a non-traditional diaper bag:
Spilled milk and formula do not bode well for your new leather bag. Look for bags with cotton or polyester lining. Bonus if they’re machine washable!
Polyester interior lining is key.
More likely than not you’ll spill milk, snacks and who knows else in your diaper bag. Anything with an easily wipeable interior will make your life a bit easier.
It’s super hard to clean, and you’re not going to want to rip that bag open with a sleeping baby nearby!
Pockets are great but not crucial.
The more pockets, the better. You’ll feel more organized being able to have a place for everything baby needs. However, don’t let that cute open tote with no pockets steer you away from purchasing. There are great inserts like the ToteSavvy that can be used to turn any tote into one with great compartments.
The lighter the better.
You’re going to be carrying quite a bit in your diaper bag — change of clothes, bottles, snacks, diapers, wipes (you get the idea). The lighter the bag, the more stuff you’ll be able to comfortable carry!
